Cheri Spiczka, a licensed psychotherapist and teen specialist with over 13 years of experience, is leading a group specifically designed for teens ages 13 to 17 who want to learn to love themselves despite the negative forces in their world. Teens struggling with self-acceptance, self-esteem and social awkwardness are ideal candidates for the group. Also, teens who experienced or witnessed violence, especially bullying would greatly benefit from the group.
The power of group therapy is in the alliance and support the members get from knowing others have experienced the exact feelings and troubles they have. A teen’s world is full of self doubt, ridicule, pressure and pain which often leads to anxiety, depression and self-medication. If left unaddressed, many turn to harmful behaviors just to numb this feeling of isolation and despair. They need to feel they are not the only ones and they can overcome the terrible things others have led them to believe about themselves.
Through the unique experience of group therapy, the participants will experience a sense of personal empowerment as they will learn coping skills and self-care. The group provides a forum where they can truly be heard, cared for and encouraged to push forward with a sense of confidence and hope for their future endeavors. Nothing is more powerful than the feeling you get from being unconditionally accepted and sharing ideas for how to make your world a brighter place.
Cheri Spiczka’s Teen Self-Love Group will meet every other Saturday at 2:30-3:45PM. Cheri is in network with BCBS. Without insurance, the cost of the group is $50.
