Ewa (pronounced “Eva”) takes an integrative approach to therapy using a variety of techniques such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychology and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. Ewa believes clients come in to treatment for a wide array of issues and it is important to tailor her approach to find the best fit for each client. By applying a variety of counseling approaches and techniques, the goal is to help clients develop healthy coping skills, improving their ability to function, to begin making positive changes in their lives.
Ewa provides psychotherapy/counseling to adolescents and adults of all ages. She has worked in an inpatient mental health facility and a residential substance abuse treatment center. In both positions, she provided various individual and group counseling services for mental health / mental illness challenges. Ewa also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for eight years which allows her a unique perspective on caring for those who are unable to care for themselves. Her experience gives evidence to her compassion for those struggling with loss of independence, physical health and the mental and emotional impact on both the patient and their family.
As a mental health and addiction specialist, Ewa is dedicated to neutralizing barriers of social stigma and shame associated with these challenges. Aside from her psychotherapy abilities, she works hard to facilitate feelings/beliefs of empowerment, self-acceptance and confidence, all of which are necessary to overcoming their personal, social, mental health, and/or substance abuse problems.
For over five years, Ewa has helped her clients (individuals, families and couples) affected by substance abuse and all forms of addiction. She encourages her clients to dig deep and discover underlying issues related to relationships, self-esteem, trauma, and feelings of loneliness that feed their addiction and prevents them from making meaningful and positive changes. She is a skilled practitioner with drug and behavioral addictions such as gambling, eating, spending, etc. Ewa also specializes in women’s issues and challenges.
Ewa finds working with older adults extremely rewarding and fulfilling. She has a great amount of respect and admiration for the elderly and their unique challenges that may include facing mortality, declining physical and cognitive health, as well as loneliness and isolation. Working with an aging population has been life changing for her, both professionally and personally. Older adults have an abundance of wisdom and life experiences that help put things in perspective and help evaluate what’s most important in life.
As a Nanny of four children (for eight years), she had life changing work experiences that taught her about child development, parenting, and the personal, social and mental health challenges of raising a healthy family. She helps her parent clients find balance and satisfaction with the overwhelming demands of raising healthy and well-adjusted children. She collaborates with parents to develop a structured and nurturing environment for their children as well as identifying ways to ensure their emotional well-being and overall satisfaction in their relationships.
Ewa’s other specialties include anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. She also works with clients who experience grief and loss and those having a hard time adjusting to new life circumstances.
